about

Artistic communities are one of few circles where it's acceptable to be "different", myself included. It's mostly a wonderful thing, but also a double edged sword because it can attract the deluded, demanding, and/or downright nasty, who are either unaware of or content with being so. At the time I wrote this song, our local scene had an influx of them (thankfully transiently so, albeit mostly with spectacular bangs)!

Being the host of a particularly popular event, the role of mediator or pacifier was always placed on me by default, mostly by people decades older than me. Some events ended up like Jeremy Kyle. It started affecting my mental health to the extent of medication. I couldn't take any more of it. So I lit the creative fire with it, which has burned ever since.

Featuring the glorious Nathan Persad on drums, and hundreds of Sidcup's locale on backing vocals. The mix is primitive and has been revisited for the upcoming album - the song and the take remains the same.

Filmed with the help of a small selection of the incredibly fine and talented live music community at The Iron Horse, Sidcup - the area's finest live music venue.

lyrics

Keeping level on the ground
While you're in the sky
We can see you looking down

Don't you know what it's about
Well, neither do I
But you tell me
You can feel it escaping control

Don't think you suppose it would've happened if we had stuck to the plan?
I'm feeling unprepared

(This is getting out of hand)
It wouldn't be so bad if
This weren't the way we planned it
Can't you see now

(This is getting out of hand)
Taking it for granted
Getting reprimanded

Think about if you really need it
You better believe it
Do you take it or leave it
Or abandon ship, if it's gonna go down

You seem to think it's just a game
I wish that was true
Though it's never been the case

The chemical balance in your brain
Is showing right though
When you tell me
You seem to think we're breaking the moulds

You're only withholding what would happen if we had stuck to the plan
You seem so unaware

(This is getting out of hand)
Taking it for granted
Getting reprimanded
Can't you see now!

(This is getting out of hand)
We're the last ones standing
Leaving empty-handed

Think about if you really need it
You better believe it!
Will you take it or leave it
Or abandon ship if it's gonna go down

(This is getting out of hand)
It wouldn't be so bad if
This weren't the way we planned it
Can't you see now

(This is getting out of hand)
We're the last ones standing
Leaving empty handed
Keeping level on the ground

(This is getting out of hand)
Yeah! Can't you see now

(This is getting out of hand)
Getting reprimanded
Thinking you can stand it

Think about if you really need it
You better believe it
Do you take it or leave it
Or abandon ship

Tom Monks London, UK
